Ciudad Rodrigo
Ciudad Rodrigo is a city in Spain, near the border of Portugal, within Castilla y Leon. We visited in October 2026 in Dolly, our home on wheels.
The stop over was on our way to Caceres.
Located in the province of Salamanca, this is a truly historical site with stunning 17th and 18th century architecture.

Arriving in a motorhome or camper
Before you enter the city, there is a garage on the right hand side of the road. Next to this is an area set aside by the council for motorhome parking. It's free but there are no facilities.
Park here and walk just 200 metres into the old town, crossing the moat into the fortress.
If the park is full, continue past and turn right. There is limited street parking, free of charge.
Perched on a high rocky rise on the banks of the River Agueda, the city dates back to Celtic times.
The old city is surrounded by a wall containing a fortress. The walls date back to the 12th century but were rebuilt in the 17the century. This was the site of a ten day siege by the Duke of Wellington during the Peninsular War.
