Departure checklist

Each time you depart from a stop, you should complete a check list. Here's ours:

1. Are all the roof vents closed?

2. Are all cupboard doors secured?

3. Is the gas/water turned off and isolated?

4. Is the cooker hob glass in the downward position?

5. Is the pitch clear of any possessions?

6. Is the pitch clear of any rubbish?

7. Is the waste water pipe secured?

8. Is any mains hook-up cable disconnected?

Whether you are on an official campsite or a park-up, you should always think about the reputation of van lifers. Leave your pitch exactly as you found it, or better. Take all rubbish away and leave no trace of your stay. It's those that don't do this that give van lifers a bad name and force people to make it stricter.
