Useful and essential items for campervans
There are tons of accessories and gadgets for campervans, many of them gimmicks and essentially useless. However, there are some things that are not only essential but highly practical.
When travelling in Europe, there are things that you MUST carry. These vary from country to country but here is a list to start you off:
Headlamp converters
It is a legal requirement when driving in Europe to convert your headlights to dip the opposite way to the UK. The simple and cheap way to do this is to apply beam deflectors. They are self-adhesive and simple to apply
Fire extinguisher
Not always compulsory but in my view, an essential to have in any campervan. I also recommend a fire blanket located close to the cooking are
UK identifier
A simple sticker on the rear of your vehicle stating 'UK'. These come as self-adhesive or magnetic. Magnetic ones are great but can be stolen
Warning triangles
In the event of a breakdown, you must place warning triangles on the road to warn oncoming motorists. These are fold out and usually come with a storage box
Hi-Viz vests
You must carry two vests that can be reached without leaving the drivers seat. You must wear these before exiting your vehicle if you break down
First aid kit
In some countries it is compulsory to carry a first aid kit. It may also be compulsory to carry a breathalyser. These are very low cost to purchase
Spare bulb kit
Some countries require you to carry a set of replacement bulbs. A good idea to have a set anyway
